Mass at St. Margaret’s and then a mini-pilgrimage to the Tyburn Convent for Adoration. The Tyburn Nuns are Benedictine Adorers of the Sacred Heart of Jesus of Montmartre. The Tyburn Convent is located at the famous site of the martyrdom of more than 100 Catholic Reformation Martyrs.
The monument near the entrance of the Tyburn Chapel reads:
TO THE GLORY OF GOD
AND IN HONOUR OF THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS
THIS STONE WAS BLESSED AND LAID BY
CARDINAL WILLIAM GODFREY ARCHBISHOP OF WESTMINISTER
ON THE 10TH DECEMBER 1961
IN MEMORY OF THE GLORIOUS MARTYRS
WHO LAID DOWN THEIR LIVES
IN DEFENCE OF THE CATHOLIC FAITH
HERE ON TYBURN HILL
1535 – 1681
The connection to the Benedictines and Montmartre is personally significant for me. I visited the latter with a good friend whilst in Paris. The photos from that trip weren’t great but I’ll find one for the post.
I went to St. Paul’s Cathedral after leaving Tyburn Convent via the Circle line.
